Order awarded: Bauer secures port project in Scottish town of Ardersier
- Bauer constructs diaphragm walls up to 42 m deep and anchor walls up to 27 m deep for quay wall
- Two Bauer MC 86 and MC 96 duty-cycle cranes with grabs in operation
- Revitalization of the port of great importance for the local economy, but also for British offshore wind power
Ardersier, Scotland – A new sustainable chapter recently began for the port in Ardersier near Inverness: BAUER Technologies Ltd., a subsidiary of BAUER Spezialtiefbau GmbH, got the go-ahead from Haventus for a significant project to revitalize the port. Work began in May.
Impressive dimensions
The tasks for Bauer include the installation of diaphragm walls for the front quay walls as well as the construction of the rear anchor walls. These are both highly important for the efficiency and safety of the port. The front quay wall features an impressive depth of up to 42 m and a width from 1,200 mm to 1,500 mm, while the parallel anchor wall will have a depth of up to 27 m and a width of 1,000 mm. Two Bauer MC 86 and MC 96 duty-cycle cranes with grab units are being used. This work is scheduled for completion in December 2024.
A hub for green energy
The transformation of Ardersier Port is extremely important for the local economy. Under the guidance of Haventus, the former oil industry site at Moray Firth will be developed to become a facility for the assembly, manufacture, maintenance and transport of offshore wind turbines and equipment. The project will create hundreds of jobs, both directly and indirectly. In addition, the port will make a significant contribution to generating 50 GW of electricity in the country by 2030 via offshore wind power plants. Thanks to its strategic position and improved operating capacities, the Ardersier Port will be a crucial hub for the use of offshore wind energy in Scotland.
“The transformation of Ardersier Port is a groundbreaking project both in terms of the scope and when it comes to sustainability,” remark Paul Doyle and John Theos, Managing Directors of Bauer Technologies, in unison. “We are proud to be part of this important project and look forward to helping shape the future of the port.”
